Last may a mysterious Microsoft giveaway hinted that they might be looking for gamers to make their own XBOX™ 360 games. But who would have guessed they were taking it to this level!
XNA Game Studio Express™ is a free tool that will allow hobbyists, students and indies to develop games on the Xbox™ 360! XNA™ does this by freeing game designers from worrying about the nuts and bolts boilerplate coding, and brings all aspects of game production into a single system.
XNA Game Studio Expres™s will allow anyone to make their own game that can be distributed on the PC and XBOX 360™. The beta has just arrived, go check it out!
It's been a quarter century since Nintendo of America® shipped out the first Donkey Kong™ cabinets, and 1UP has put up an excellent retrospective of the launch, history, and success of the Pauline-swiping, barrel-chucking primate.
"Twenty-five years ago this August, the first-ever copy of the game that would become Nintendo 's® breakout hit product was installed in a Seattle tavern. A quarter century ago, the first quarter dropped into the first bright blue cabinet and the first player watched a massive ape clamber up a construction site, kidnapped damsel in hand, stomping the girders into disrepair."- I'm not sure if the feeling I got from that was of pure nostalgia, or simply feeling old.
If you're up on your video game trivia, you know that this means August 2006 is also the silver anniversary of Mario's™ world debut. Much more trivia to be found in the article, and memories of simpler times. A must read.
Ever wish that you could play as Sonic™ in Super Smash Bros.™? Well soon you may be able to on the Wii®... but you can also do it right now on your PC! Super Smash Bros.™ Flash is an awesome homebrew clone of the #1 GameCube® game, SSB Melee.
Play as 28 different characters in Multi-man Melee, Target Test, Adventure, Classic, All-Star and more! Hard to believe that the maker of the game is only 16 years old!
Best of all it's FREE, and you can play it right in your web browser!
(X-Arcade™ owners will want to reprogram to the control setup shown in the game, and play with NUMLOCK off.)
For many 360 owners, the game pictured here looks quite familiar... but it's not what you think. Meet Grid Wars, a Geometry Wars™ clone for PC that is so good that Bizarre Creations® said it's hurting the sales of the original, and asked the creator to remove it from his site!
Luckily you can still grab it from a site that did a review of it. Robotron™ fans should not miss this one. You better grab it before Bizarre® makes it disappear forever!
Even if Grid Wars is eradicated from the internet, other clones like HGEWars, Grid Assault, Trigonometry Wars and many more are still available. You know what they say, once something hits the internet, it's there to stay.
A German website (winters are cold there, not much else to do) has compiled 177 versions of Pac-Man™ that you can play for free! Google™ translated for your playing pleasure.
IGN recently got their hands on the latest build of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2™ for the Nintendo Wii®. This is one of only three (Super Smash Bros. Brawl™, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon™) fighting games currently slated for release on the Wii®, and many have been wondering how they are going to play a fighting game with that magic wand of a controller.
Well good news on DBZ:Wii for X-Arcade™ owners: "The developers did note to us that they've received tester feedback that using the Wii's® controller may tire players. For this reason the Wii version will also have the ability for players to plug in GameCube® controllers to control the game the more "traditional" way." Hopefully most Wi®i fighting games will follow this trend.
There are many great Pac-Man™ players out there, but only one did eventually play the perfect game, and it took over 20 years of gamers around the world trying: On July 3rd 1999 Billy Mitchell scored 3,333,360 reaching level 255 (at which point the game locks up as shown) without dying once and became the worlds best known arcade player. Class!
Now you can too! It's the ultimate Pac-Man™ guide that Billy never wanted you to see.
And if you do master it, you only have 177 more to go.
Phantom Entertainment™ has updated their website quietly ushering in the demise of an imagined console, you're looking at all that's left of it.
Now they are talking about some new gaming software that runs on client software on PCs:
"the first end-to-end, on-demand game service delivering online games directly to your living room or any comfortable setting in your home or workplace." - The first? Oh really? Are you sure?
The Grand Theft Auto™ franchise has hit a new low, it is now directly promoting Coke™! No I don't mean the $150 an eighth ounce white kind, I mean the $1.50 a 20oz black kind.
The video speaks for itself, just hit play!!
