DOOM Movie Starring The Rock!

When Comdedy Central's Jon Steward prodded The Rock about another project he was working on, he said: "The film is Doom .We just wrapped it."

Taking much of its inspiration from the PC game Doom 3, the film will take place in a paramilitary research facility on Mars, where things go awry and hell is literally raised. Johnson let on about his excitement for the film. "Here's the great thing about Doom ... It's rated 'R,' it's unapologetic, just like the video game. I love blowing [expletive] up, and in this movie..." Johnson also gave details about the legendary BFG, calling it a "bio-force gun," rather than the more profane term gamers pegged the acronym as standing for.

Doom the movie is expected to hit the screen in August! Doom III hits the Xbox April 3.

Xbox 2 News and Specs Pouring in!

The 2005 Game Developers Conference (GDC) is underway, and news on the Xbox 2 code named "Xenon" is pouring in. Some of the more interesting things revealed so far is that Microsoft is requiring developers to make all Xenon titles Live enabled, and that developers are being instructed to plan their games for high-definition. The baseline is 720p at 1280x720 for gameplay and video clips, 16:9 aspect ratio, 5.1 Surround Sound, and anti-aliasing. These features are the current minimum requirement.

Nintendo Emulation Gets a BOLD New Look!

Nintendo 64 emulation has just been taken to the next level! A new program allows you to replace standard textures in emulated N64 games with high-resolution versions, or new ones altogether. Take a look at the two Zelda pics to the left comparing the original moon on the top with the new high-rez moon on the bottom.

Using the technique, not only is it possible to replace existing textures with higher ality ones, it is also possible to re-skin an entire game to give it a completely new look.
