Nintendo Revolution and Retro-lution...
Nintendo's executive of vice president of sales and marketing, Reginald Fils-Aime, offered this. "We announced the ability to download and play the best NES games, S-NES games, N64 games, in addition to Revolution games and GameCube games," he said in an IGN/G4 interview. "If you put those controllers all lined up together, they're all very different. So think about what kind of device is going to allow you to play all those different types of games. It's pretty interesting." Read Everything Known About The Nintendo Revolution

Microsoft had little new news to offer on the next generation XBOX 360 at E3, but they were the only ones with playable games at the show. Gears of War, Kameo, Condemned, Quake 4, oh my! The XBOX features XBOX Live Arcade which allows you to download and play classic arcade games via the XBOX Live internet service, but the XBOX 360 looks to take that to the next generation in a big way. New pictures of the XBOX 360 dashboard show the XBOX Live Arcade on the main menu. |
This year Sony grilled up tech demos of what the PS3 hardware could conceptually do at their E3 press conference, mostly tech demos of ducks and leaves than real gameplay (pre-rendered doesn't count!). While the demos were impressive, it was tough to tell what was real time and what was "wouldn't it be cool if" movies. Remember that the PS2 was promised to have "Toy Story Graphics" and fell way short of this, which just goes to show that movies and tech demos does not a good game console make. At least the controller can be used as a boomerang to turn the TV off. For the old-school gamers they too offered backward compatibility of both PS2 and even PS1 titles on their new console.
