Classic Arcade Game News: April 2006
New Zelda Movie Trailer Leaked!

XGaming, Inc. has obtained exclusive news that MTV Films and Paramount Pictures have purchased the rights to develop a major motion picture based on the video game The Legend of Zelda! It stars Orlando Bloom as Link , an elf-boy from the woods on a mission as The Hero of Time. Other stars include Christopher Walken as Ganon, and Reese Witherspoon as the imprisoned Princess Zelda. We asked Nintendo's Shiguru Myamoto to comment on the movie, he would only say "I've never seen that before, but we do have another Revolution secret ".
The movie is set for release in April of next year. More as it develops... (slightly delayed) APRIL FOOLS!

Revolution to Emulate Genesis and TurboGrafx!

Remember how the Revolution is going to play games from and emulate every Nintendo home console to date, starting with the NES? Well, that's not all: they're also including emulation for the Sega Genesis and Turbo Grafx!
In a press release simultaneously with an announcement made during Nintendo's keynote speech at the 2006 Game Developer's Conference, Nintendo announced that Sega and Hudson have signed on as partners for the Revolution's classic games download service. The agreement covers some of the more than 1,000 games made by Sega and Hudson Soft for the now defunct Sega Genesis console and the TurboGrafx 16 system, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said.
Furthermore, Satoru Iwata explicitly called the Revolution’s Virtual Console — from which users can purchase old games such as NES, N64 and Sega Genesis titles, and maybe some new ones as well — the “video game version of Apple’s iTunes music store.”
Who would have thought back in the 80s such bitter rivals would eventually work together on a retro software package for Nintendo's next console?
Some bad news comes from IGN's Matt Casamassina who chatted with some people from Rare and Microsoft and learned that all Rare-owned licenses will be absent from Nintendo's Virtual Console. Among others, that includes Killer Instinct and Goldeneye 007!

Browsing the net I stumbled upon this website which lists... well... Free Online Game. Categories include action, board/puzzle, casino, RPG, Streategy and Misc.
To be eligible for inclusion in the Play-Free-Online-Games.com directory, a game must be:
- Free - The game must be completely free to play indefinitely, not just for a trial period. The game may however charge to unlock special features or areas, or to give the player some advantage or benefit that non-paying players don't have.
- Multiplayer - Playable by more than two players in the same game at the same time.
- Online - Playable over the internet.
- Realtime - A player's actions take effect immediately. This is as opposed to turn-based or tick-based games.
- Graphical - The game must have a graphical interface. Text MUDs, for instance, don't qualify.

Metal Gear Solid: Persistence
With the recent release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence comes 2 bonus discs full of various content. The second disc, titled Persistence, is where the true meat of MGS3: Subsistence lies. This disc is packed with lots of extra modes and features that will please any Metal Gear fan and newbies alike. The two most immediate bonuses, the inclusion of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Never before seen on North American shores (outside of enterprising importers) Persistence holds pixel-perfect ports of both MSX versions. This includes the true sequel to the original and includes brand new English translations.
The original Metal Gear, released in Japan and Europe in 1987 was the first Metal Gear ever to debut on a home system. It was the story of Solid Snake, the new operative of a secret organization named FOXHOUND. Fans of the original Metal Gear have long-awaited this chance to relive the classic; for younger fans of Metal Gear Solid, it's a dream come true! The momentous birth of the legendary Solid Snake has finally arrived.
The sequel, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, the Lost Chapter of the Metal Gear saga, was a title released only in Japan in 1990. The plot here brings Snake out of retirement by FOXHOUND to infiltrate Zanzibar Land, a heavily fortified territory that kidnapped a successful bio-scientist. It too is a solid game from the 8-bit glory days and it's a real treat to be able to play it for the first time all these years later.

The Most Controversial Video Game Ads of All Time

In tribute to the controversy surrounding the latest Hitman ad, GamePro has compiled a collection of the most head-turning, eyebrow-raising print ads to ever appear in GamePro magazine.
"Throughout the years, GamePro magazine has seen its share of ads that pushed the so-called "taste envelope." There were even instances where GamePro's publisher actually turned away certain ads due to their unsuitable content. But some still managed to find their way into the magazine anyway."

" X-Arcade Joysticks are nothing new. They've been reviewed a billion times by a billion publications. I haven't come across a negative review. How can this be? I decided to take things into my own hands (pun intended) and see what all the raves were about for myself. Forget what you've heard and read elsewhere, this is the real review, the only one you'll ever need. This is a review for the 15 pound, made of bullet proof and "pro" arcade materials X-Arcade Dual Joystick ."
